CLEANING

Leaving dirt, debris and clippings on, in and under your mower for months on end is an invitation for rust to start building. Be sure to thoroughly clean the exterior of your Hustler as well as the underside of the deck until it’s completely clean. Also look out for any surfaces where the metal may be showing and have them repainted. It is better to blow your machine down with a hand-held blower rather than wash down with a pressure washer.

If you own the Raptor Flip-Up, make use of our patented QuickFlip™ technology for easy cleaning and maintenance. Make sure that your Hustler is completely dry before storing it for the rest of the winter.

BLADES

While your cleaning the underside of your deck, be sure to take a good look at your blades. Keep an eye out for bent or broken blades and replace them immediately. Winter is also the best time to sharpen your blades so that you’re ready to go when spring comes along! Find your local mower servicing center here https://hustlermower.com.au/find-a-retailer and they’ll be able to get them sharpened for you!

DRIVE BELTS

After you’ve cleaned your deck, you should also check your drive belt. Look out for any signs of ware, frays & cracks then replace them if necessary.

Fuel.jpg

FUEL

When it comes to fuel, you can either drain all the fuel from your Hustler or use a fuel stabiliser. Stabilisers can keep fuel fresh for extended periods of time and will also make sure that you won’t be faced with any difficulties when starting your mower come Spring.

Turn the fuel tap off and run the engine until it runs out of fuel. This way when you go to restart your hustler the carburetor will get a fresh supply of fuel.

FILTERS

Now would also be a great time to check and replace your fuel filter if you haven’t recently done so.

When it comes to Air Filters, it’s always best practice to replace them after every mowing season. If it’s beginning to fray and fall apart then it’s time to get your hands on some new ones! Refer to your owner’s manual for instructions on how to properly replace your filters. Remember never blow out the air filter with compressed air, this damages the paper element allowing dust into the engine. If dirty, replace the air filter.

Spark-Plugs.jpg

SPARK PLUGS

Spark plugs should be replaced every 100 hours but now would also be a good time to inspect them for any signs of corrosion. If the plugs are looking good, then take about 30ml of engine oil and pour it into the cylinder before cranking the engine a couple of times to help with lubrication. This will help you prevent any rust from building up while your Hustler is in storage.

TYRES

Always be on the lookout for thread wear, rot, cracks and leaks. Now that mowing season is over, it is a great time to get your tires repaired or replaced if necessary. Always refer to your operator’s manual for proper inflation and tire care instructions.

BATTERY

Before your Hustler goes into storage, it’s best to disconnect the battery and remove it from the unit. Make sure to clean the battery, terminals and cable connectors thoroughly and get it fully charged. Store your battery in a cool dry place and don’t ever expose it to freezing temperatures!
